Running a Bitcoin full node in 2025 requires hardware capable of efficiently handling the network's demands. Here's an overview of the recommended hardware specifications:

Hardware Requirements

Processor (CPU)

A 4-core CPU is recommended for transaction validation and block synchronization. Bitcoin Core benefits more from the CPU GHz/Core rate than from a higher number of cores. A CPU like the Intel E3v6 or even an i3 or equivalent is suitable for running a full node. Older CPUs perfectly fit your needs; you do not need to invest in the newest hardware.

Memory (RAM)

About 4 GB of RAM is required (some sources provide that 2GB is a minimum, but we recommend having more, as RAM is the most affordable resource ). However, 8 GB or 16 GB RAM is recommended for best performance, especially when running additional applications on the same node.

Storage

The Bitcoin blockchain is continuously growing. As of now, it requires approximately 350 GB of disk space. To accommodate future growth, it is recommended that you have at least 1 TB of free disk space. A solid-state drive (SSD) is recommended over traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) due to faster data processing.

Internet Connection

A stable internet connection with upload/download speeds of at least 50 Kbps is necessary. An unmetered connection or one with high upload limits is ideal, as full nodes can use up to 200 GB of upload bandwidth per month. With dedicated servers in a data center, it should not be a problem; providers usually provide much more traffic than is needed.

Software Requirements

Operating System

Bitcoin Core is compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. Choose an operating system you are comfortable with that is well-supported by Bitcoin Core.

Bitcoin Core Software

The latest version of the Bitcoin Core software is available on the official website: https://bitcoin.org/en/download. We would recommend that you update your software as soon as new versions are released.
